About Mr. Perkins

My name is David Perkins and I'm a 4th grade teacher at Frank Long Intermediate School in Bellport, New York. I've been a teacher for 8 years in South Country School District and I am still enjoying each and every year. My secret to being such a happy teacher is trying to implement different things every school year. This way, I'm excited about trying new ways to teach and the students are excited about various ways to learn!

I'm married to my wonderful wife Cristina and we have a son named Victor. He was born March 21, 2009 and he is everything to us. I had no idea being a father was so hard, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. He makes my wife and I laugh so much. We also have a Pomeranian named Pumpkin. She plays fetch, nibbles on socks, and watches people. She's a very interesting dog. I've lived on Long Island all my life and love all of the activities Long Island has to offer. Some of my favorite things to do are play basketball, racquetball, chess, video games, and design websites. (I linked chess and one of my favorite online games to play if you'd like to check it out.)

Last, but not least, I really enjoy using technology to support what I'm teaching in class. It is difficult using technology with every subject, but when I can use it, I do. I learn things just as students do and I have learned that there are many websites, online tools, and other applications that can make learning so much fun! It's a matter of being open to technology and working with it. Each year I have been able to expand how I use educational technology in the classroom. I can't wait to try out some ideas this year! For the most part students love using computers and I also know that a majority of kids have computers at home. Do you know what that means? It means that kids have access to learning and becoming an even smarter student 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
